Can what you eat affect IVF success?

Research suggests that women eating a Mediterranean-style diet — olive oil, fish, pulses, whole grains, fruit and vegetables — may see somewhat better IVF results, and being a healthy weight boosts the odds. No food works magic for implantation, and special regimes such as eating pineapple core or only warm foods are unnecessary. The generator provides a balanced, pregnancy-safe plan (without high-mercury fish, raw eggs or raw papaya) with extra iron, folate and protein.

Around the embryo transfer

Stage Priorities
3 months before Folic acid, a healthy weight, limited caffeine, and no alcohol or smoking (for both partners)
Stimulation phase Plenty of fluids (eases bloating), protein, regular meals
After the transfer Eat as you would in early pregnancy — pregnancy-safe, balanced, no dieting
Two-week wait Stick to your normal routine; skip alcohol and unsafe foods

Call your clinic if you become very bloated or breathless or have severe abdominal pain during stimulation — it could be ovarian hyperstimulation. Calculate your due date using the IVF due date calculator.

Your questions, answered

What is a good diet after embryo transfer?

Eat the balanced, pregnancy-safe meals you would have in early pregnancy: well-cooked fish or eggs, dairy, dal, whole grains, fruit and vegetables. Nothing special is required.

Does eating pineapple help implantation?

Good evidence that pineapple aids implantation is lacking. Normal portions are safe, and large amounts serve no purpose.

Does the male partner’s diet matter for IVF?

Yes — eating well, not smoking, drinking less alcohol and keeping a healthy weight all improve sperm quality.
