Diet plans that respect Jain food rules
Onion, garlic and potato turn up in most diet plans, which makes them tricky for Jain families to use. The generator includes a Jain setting: all meals exclude radish, beetroot, carrot, potato, garlic, onion and every other root vegetable, plus meat, fish and eggs. Select any goal above — PCOS, pregnancy, thyroid, weight loss, weight gain and others — and Jain is pre-selected.
Jain-friendly foods in our plans
- Grains and millets: foxtail millet, sabudana, oats, rice, ragi, bajra, jowar, wheat
- Protein: nuts, tofu, milk, curd, paneer, rajma, masoor, toor, chana and moong dal
- Vegetables: leafy greens, pumpkin, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, cabbage, bhindi, tinda, turai, lauki
- Flavour: fresh coriander, lemon, ajwain, haldi, ginger (dry ginger for strict Jains), hing, jeera
Meeting your protein needs on a Jain diet
With no eggs and fewer beans on certain days, protein can fall short. Have paneer or dal with every main meal, milk or curd once or twice daily, and nuts or roasted chana as snacks. On tithis when you skip green leafy vegetables, add more ragi, sesame and dal for calcium and iron.
Your questions, answered
Does a Jain diet work for weight loss?
Yes. What drives weight loss is calories and protein, not whether you eat potato or onion. Select “Weight loss” above to get a calorie-counted Jain plan.
Do strict Jains eat ginger?
Because fresh ginger is a root, strict Jains usually use dry ginger powder (sonth). In our plans, ginger only ever appears as an optional extra for flavour.
Can I follow chauvihar with this plan?
Yes — eat dinner before sunset and drop the late snack, moving those calories to earlier meals in the day.
